I remember the day I became an independent voter, Aug 17, 2000, that night Al Gore won the Democratic nomination for the presidency of the United States. I remember thinking to myself, Al Gore and George W. Bush, this is the two best candidates our country can conjure up to be the President of the Unites States? As an independent voter, I keep hoping, someone will rise to the top of the heap of one of these political parties and be the leader we need, but it hasn’t happened yet. I spent the last four months researching and analyzing these two political parties and while they both have their problems, one party has gone off the deep end of the craziness scale, the Republican party. Now, tomorrow’s article is about the democratic party, so you republicans don’t get too offended by my views, quite frankly, I don’t care if you get offended, this party is looney tunes.
Let’s start with the elephant in the room, the twice divorced, six bankruptcies, over 20 sexual harassments, rapist, twice impeached, seditionist, grifter, traitor who lies like he breathes, Donald Trump. Now, I know he’s a hero to a lot of you folks but he’s not to me. People love to tell me how great his economy was, he was handed a great economy from the previous administration, then passed a tax cut for the rich, added seven trillion dollars to our already ballooning deficit and in 2020 botched the pandemic response and tanked the economy! He was in charge during the pandemic, he shut everything down, the buck stops here, remember those words, look them up and see what it means. Remember how he lauded how quickly he created the vaccines, now that there are questions about them, he doesn’t say a word, wonder why?
In all my life I have never seen a group of gutless, spineless jellyfish like I see every day in this republican party, twisting themselves into pretzels defending this man’s criminal actions. Speaking about non-existent election fraud, inciting a riot where people were injured, lying about that, and now taking and showing off classified documents to whomever will listen to his rantings. Fake elector plans have been uncovered in three different states, indictments have already come down in Michigan. Do you think Trump will come out and help any of these folks that tried to overturn an electio? Don’t hold your breath. Still, I see republicans out there every day defending him, it’s despicable! My favorite defenders are the religious folks who defend him, I don’t believe in God or religion, but I did attend 12 years of Catholic school, if this guy is God’s messenger, I’m glad I’m an atheist!
The Republican party today is messy, internally divided, filled with self-serving carnival-barkers like Trump and his descendants – Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz – more interested in garnering publicity for themselves than in securing electoral or policy victories for their party, and most of all, beholden to positions, most notably on abortion and guns, that inflict untold suffering and are increasingly abhorrent to the average voter.
But the party’s problems go beyond Trump and the extremist anti-choice, gun toting regime that his judicial nominees have ushered in. The party has yielded to extremists in its base, placing candidates for office that range from the out of touch to the creepy. Mehmet Oz, who ran for Senate in Pennsylvania last year, has the effect of a snake-oil salesman; Doug Mastriano, republican candidate for Pennsylvania governor, a far-right religious zealot who thinks we should legislate using the bible, scary. George Santos, a congressman from New York, seems to have lied about absolutely everything, possibly including his own name.
The republican party has spent the last three years passing laws to restrict voting access around the country, to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. Become fixated with gay and transgender folks as if somehow these folks are causing all the countries problems and just recently approved educational studies that say African Americans benefitted from slavery, stupidity like this you just can’t make up. Oh and of course, if you challenge any of this lunacy, you’re woke, their favorite sound bite!
If I said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, the Trump wing of the republican party is a cult. Republican party insiders don’t seem to have much interest in changing course. In January, just weeks after anger over abortion bans and disgust at the extremism of Republican candidates drove the party to a historically weak showing in the 2022 midterms, the Republican National Committee, reelected Ronna McDaniel, a Trump loyalist, for a fourth term as chair. Don’t believe it’s a cult, Ronna’s actual name is Ronna Romney McDaniel, Mitt Romney’s niece, Trump didn’t like her having Romney in her name, so she changed it, Kool-Aid anyone?
The republican party is a mess, it has no platform, stands for nothing, and leads by sewing chaos, as it stands now, the democrats could run Daffy Duck as their candidate, and I would vote for him!
