The Real World

One of the funnier things I find about the internet is all the experts that is has created. I see and hear folks all the time that have suddenly become experts on sports, politics, society, and the climate. Some of these people couldn’t spell cat even if you spotted them the c & t but now, they are the masters of their domain on every topic under the sun. The internet is funny that way, read an article on any topic, become a subject matter expert overnight.

The experts I get the biggest kick out of are all these media folk that are popping up everywhere on the internet, podcast and on cable news. Joe Rogan, Anderson Cooper, Meghan Kelly just to name a few. Every day, I see one of these so-called experts somewhere bloviating about whatever topic has them annoyed on any given day. There are a couple things you should remember about these folks and their daily schtick.

These folks are rich, really rich, multi-millionaires. Now, I don’t begrudge anyone for being rich but the reality of it is, they really don’t live in the real world, having that kind of wealth opens so many different doors and avenues for them. They can’t grasp what life is like for the average American, they live in the stratosphere of American society. Does anyone honestly think any of these folks are worried about an unexpected home maintenance bill or the cost of healthcare and education in our country. These folks have more money than they could spend in five lifetimes, sorry but it skews their view of reality.

The narrative that they push isn’t because of their extensive knowledge on any given topic, it’s pushed by whatever corporate sponsor is financing their media outlet. Any knowledge they might appear to have is because that have some underpaid intern doing all their research for them. Every day, these folks have a stick up their ass on some cause or person who has rained on their corporate’s sponsor parade. They really have no stake in the game, just some rich benefactor greasing their palm.

When I was still working, I used to say that some folks have a job and others have a position. These media personalities, they have positions. Construction workers, policemen, firemen, grocery store workers, that’s a job. These media talking heads have all their heavy lifting done by some underling and then get all the facetime and credit and then they can drift back into their rich, out of touch world.

Sean Hannity, Rachel Maddow, Lebron James or whatever Hollywood star is out there babbling away with their always slanted view, all I hear is Charlie Brown’s teacher. They are certainly entitled to their opinion, but it carries no additional weight to me. Personally, I would like to see all these folks out working in the real world, carry some shingles up a ladder, run into a burning building to save a life, spend an afternoon trying to educate children. Once these folks do some real work, in the real world, then maybe I listen to your podcast, cable show or whatever their media tool is but until then it’s just wah, wah, wah!
