American Vanity is killing our republic

If I heard this one line once, I’ve heard it a thousand times, America is the greatest country in the world, usually accompanied by someone waving an American Flag! Now, I am as patriotic as they come, I served my country for over 33 years in the Air Force, and I am proud of what I accomplished and truly love my country, but that line truly lacks self-awareness of all the things that ail our country at this moment. Let me explain this before folks start coming down on me.

We are 30,000,000,000,000 dollars in debt, I like to write the number, it puts it in perspective better than writing trillion.

We have around 130,000,000,000,000 dollars in unfunded liabilities around our country.

Social Security and Medicare are barreling toward insolvency.

Our healthcare system is ranked 11th of the 11 industrialized nations in the world. A nation that has all this technology and we are ranked 11th.

We just lost over a 1,000,000 Americans to a virus we could have certainly contained.

Nineteen children and two teachers were just executed in their classroom at a school, the second mass shooting in a week and the poorly written amendment which keeps allowing this stuff to happen was just reaffirmed this past week by the Supreme Court.

We have an ex-president who tried everything he could to overthrow a fair & free election and is openly trying to destroy this republic and folks want to re-elect him.

We have two political parties who have been captured by their fringe and appear to lack any type of leadership or courage to tackle the myriad of problems this country faces.

Most important, we have lost touch with reality and the truth. Just the other day, I saw folks with a petition that had the heading, FIX 2020 FIRST. A year and a half later and people are still talking about non-existent voter fraud.

This is not a republican or democrat thing either, America is in desperate need of leadership, courage, folks who want to compromise for the betterment of this country. We need ideas, we need to start talking to each other again and stop making every issue a partisan one. The first three problems I cited above were caused by both political parties and their lack of viable solutions on these issues is stunning. I am so tired of politicians talking about red & blue states, it’s the United States of America and you are supposed to represent us all, not just the people in your party. Stop worrying about what will get you re-elected and starting legislating real change for our country!

It’s the Fourth of July weekend, a time for all Americans to celebrate what our founding fathers fought so hard for, a republic that shines for the rest of the world to follow, sorry folks, it’s not currently anything close to that. The one thing I know for sure is this, waving an American Flag and yelling we’re the greatest country in the world is not going to cut it! We can be the greatest country in the world, we just need to find our courage & integrity again to lead our world!  It’s time for congress and the President to become statesman and for us, the electoral to start demanding more of these leaders.
