In a world full of fiscal insanity at the government level, there is one thing that always seems affordable no matter how bad the debt or deficit might be, I’m speaking of course about, a parade.
I’ve heard countless city, state and federal officials speak about how bad any of the local, state or federal budgets are. Every time city workers are up for a contract, teacher’s contracts being negotiated and pay raises for federal workers, almost inevitably there will be some politicians say, “we just don’t have the funds for this”. Unless, of course, it’s for a parade.
The City of Philadelphia is constantly on the news concerning their underfunded and over-stretched budget but let some billion-dollar corporation like the Eagles or Philles win a championship, BAM, there is money for a parade. Overtime for city workers, police and fire, we can find the funds, it’s magical!
I bring this up because today, in Washington DC, our illustrious leader is having a parade to celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday which just happens to coincide with President Trump’s birthday, magical again! The budget for this parade, $25 to 40 million dollars.
One of the things that used to annoy me when I was employed by the government is when people would say things like “ah, 40 million, that’s a drop in the bucket”. In the grand scheme of things, 40 million in an 832-billion-dollar budget is around 0.05 percent of the DOD budget. Funny thing though, to the average American, 40 million is lot of money, to these bureaucrats, its pocket change, but let’s not forget, it’s for a parade, and there is always money for a parade.
37,000,000,000,000 in debt, DOGE cuts, Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, all being cut, oh I know, it’s all the fraud, waste and abuse they are finding, if you believe that, I have some ocean view housing in Iowa for you. Normally, these parades are conducted by Russia, China, North Korea, a great group of countries to emulate. This parade is supposed to celebrate the US Army, but let’s be honest, this parade is to feed Trump’s ego while the world burns down around him. Happy Birthday US Army, LET’S HAVE A PARADE!
