Separation of Church and State

I am a huge advocate of the separation of church and state. Our founding fathers knew exactly what they were doing when they wouldn’t recognize a national religion. It is one of the reasons they came and started this republic. Some of the colonist came here to escape the Church of England and its shortcomings. One of the things I learned from my deployments to the Middle East and being brought up Catholic is how dangerous organized religion is, and we are watching that play out right now in our government with Christian nationalism.

In the past few weeks, there have been several incidents which have highlighted the fraud of these so-called Christians.

Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson stated several times how he was praying for the “big, beautiful bill” in the house. Imagine, praying for a bill that will take healthcare and food away from folks who need it.

Senator Joni Ernst at a town hall last week with her constituents were questioning her about the Medicaid and Medicare cuts just stated, “well, we all have to die sometimes”. You would think that would be callous enough, but no, the next day, she put out a video with a fake apology while walking around a cemetery and of course, finished it up with “you just have to embrace Jesus Christ for eternal life”.

Senator Mike Lee of Utah, decided to joke about the political assignation of two people in Minnesota, real classy guy.

All these folks claim to be Christians, but their callousness and cruelty always seems to shine through over any compassion or empathy.

Yesterday, Mike Huckabee, a Trump sycophant and our ambassador to Israel sent a message to Trump to listen to God’s voice for his guidance on this war between Israel and Iran, then compares him to Harry Truman who dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan. This right here is why there should be no religion in government. I said it during George W. Bush’s tenure and again here, these religious folk believe this Revelations nonsense and they want to have a hand in it.

Generally, I just ignore this religious BS, but it is glaringly apparent that religion is trying to make its way into our everyday government and I for one will not stand for it. I am tired of hearing people in power talk about God’s plan. Is God’s plan to sit back and watch women and children be murdered in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel and Iran? I am tired of hearing about people’s faith in Jesus and we just must believe. I thought I would take the time to remind Joni Ernst and these other so-called Christians that my parent’s generation were very faithful people, attended church, prayed much more than my generation does and do you know what all the faith in Jesus got them, I’ll remind you, Two World wars, the Great Depression, the Holocaust, poverty, segregation, Korean and Vietnam war, priest and clergy molesting children while holding his book in their hands. All that faith didn’t seem to work out to well for them.

I catch a lot of flak for being an atheist, for not believing in the bible or any organized religion. I get called for antisemitism, or told I have islamophobia or religio-phobia, all of which makes me snicker. These religions, shun divorcees, don’t want any type of birth control, don’t like pre-marital sex, don’t believe is a women’s right to her bodily autonomy and hate all gay and trans people but somehow, I have the phobia, ok, got it.

I don’t want any official at the federal, state, or local government basing decisions on listening to God’s voice or whatever deity you believe in. The religious folk in our government believe they are all part of God’s plan in Revelations and Armageddon is an acceptable solution to them, that alone should scare you. If you think praying is going to help, let me remind you that over on the other side of the world, that Muslims pray twice a day to a different God and I’m pretty sure they are praying for the exact opposite thing that Christians are praying for. Let’s hope these world leaders start trying to find a peaceful solution to all this destruction and stop listening to the voices from above.
