I remember reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy and it was the first time I ever saw the word Palantir. A “palantír” is a seeing stone that can be used to distort truth and present selective visions of reality. Why does this word matter? Well, the word itself is insignificant, the company that uses that name, that’s another can of worms.
In March, Trump signed an executive order requiring all agencies and departments of the federal government to share data on Americans. To get the job done, Trump chose Palantir Technologies.
If you don’t know what Palantir Technologies is, they are an AI-based platform that allows its users – among them, military and law enforcement agencies – to analyze personal data, including social media profiles, personal information and physical characteristics. These are used to identify and spy on individuals. The kind of company George Orwell spoke of in his book 1984.
The New York Times reported that, Palantir’s software may now be used to combine data gleaned from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service. Meanwhile, the administration wants access to citizens’ and others’ bank account numbers and medical claims.
The Times also interviewed a former engineer from Palantir. Linda Xia, who was a Palantir engineer until last year, said the problem was not with the company’s technology but with how the Trump administration intended to use it. “Combining all that data, even with the noblest of intentions, significantly increases the risk of misuse,” she told the New York Times. Several former members of Palantir also signed a letter to the corporation urging the corporation to stop its work with Trump.
A database of every American with all their pertinent information, nah shouldn’t be a problem.
One other thing, Peter Thiel, a billionaire, is the owner of Palantir. Mr. Thiel is a big donor to JD Vance. Peter Thiel is a tad odd, watch this video and tell me if you want this person knowing all your personal info. The man was asked a simple question about humanity and couldn’t answer it. Paying attention yet?
