WANT-A-BE

I was walking my son’s dog around the neighborhood tonight. Along comes a fairly new, maybe 2022, 2023 Jeep Grand Cheroke. Good looking vehicle. As it passes my wife and I, I get to see in full view a “Novice Driver” sticker on the bumper. You know how important I think those bumper stickers are to the driving public. If you are driving a 2022, 2023, 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a novice driver sticker on it …… you deserve everything you get when driving in public. Sorry I went way off track on this one.

Well, I guess I have heard and read enough incompetence about the Paris Olympics opening ceremony artistry. First of all, the opening ceremony is not about athletics (as someone posted about how upset she was with the Dionysus depiction). The opening ceremony is about the athletes and the Country holding the Olympic games. The opening ceremony is a time to tell the history, culture, artistry and life of the country hosting the games. Anything after the opening ceremony is about the athletics. Someone even had the gall to mention that some women who chose to wear 3 quarter spandex tights when playing beach volleyball, must have been caused by a woke group because they didn’t want women objectified wearing bikinis. Really! Are you that ignorant that you can’t take a moment to think that maybe that was a personal choice by the individuals and not a woke mob decision. Let alone take the time to watch additional games of beach volleyball where women were wearing bikinis. This woman even said, that is why her husband watches beach volleyball. Talk about ignorance.

Once again, on cue, the conservative, no nothing, non-spiritual, want-a-be Christians were offended by Dionysus depiction during the opening ceremony. They can’t even get it through their head, that it was not a depiction of the last supper. But living in fear is how it starts. Everything is a conspiracy and everything is about fear. Please read your Greek mythology and your theology history to better understand what was depicted during the performance. Stop cutting and pasting stupid memes without reading & understanding. Stop living in fear. Stop thinking that someone is taking something from you. Remember Hitler (the least Christian person of his time), he convinced a large group of Germans that Jewish people were bad, not good for the country and were taking things from the Germans. Remember what happened (Unless you think that is fake news). Read your history.

Those of you who are posting your holier than thou Christian platforms, take time to look in the mirror. Ask yourself these questions before you tell others how to live.

  • When was the last time I didn’t go out on my boat for the weekend, but instead, stayed home to help at a soup kitchen?
  • When was the last time I didn’t go to the beach for the weekend, but instead stayed home and spent a Saturday building a home for Habitat for Humanity?
  • When was the last time I didn’t sit by my pool on the weekend, but helped raise money for those in need in my town?
  • When was the last time I put aside my own wants and spent time helping my church, neighborhood food pantry or someone in need?
  • When was the last time I spent some of my free time helping at the Boys & Girls Club or Scouts?
  • When was the last time I spent some of my time helping a veteran organization, speaking with homeless veterans or raising money to help stop soldier suicide?
  • When was the last time I did something for someone else?

Stop telling people you wear your religion like a shield. They also did that during the crusades, & it killed a lot of people in the name of religion. Stop saying how Christian you are and start being a Christian. Stop taking the parts of the bible that fit perfectly into your arguments and start living what the bible was actually teaching. It is the fanatical side of any religion, that bastardizes that religion into something it is not. Fanatical Christianity is as dangerous and Islamic fundamentalism.

It’s funny how true Christians like my friend John (Episcopal lay person & organist for the episcopal church) or my mother-in-law (the retired Methodist minister) and many other religious clergy were not offended by the performances during the opening ceremony. It is the want-a-be Christians who are upset. Why weren’t you upset at the hint of a ménage-a-trois that was depicted? Isn’t that against one of the commandments or something in the bible? Or does it not fit into your argument at this time. You want to be a Christian? Then be a Christian.

So, for all you want-a-be Christians, as one of my mother-in-law’s high school classmate, Billy Bigaloe (what a name) used to say “Keep your mouth shut and your bowels open”. You want-a-be a Christian? Take the time to help someone else and not yourself.

Be a real Christian!
