As Tony & many others mentioned, I disagree with the killing of Charlie Kirk. I’m sad that one human must resort to violence towards another as a way of settling differences. But hell, it goes back 100 years or so. I’m sad that a person doesn’t have their spouse to talk to, to hold at night, to hold hands with, to kiss goodnight. I’m sad that 2 young kids don’t have their father to hug, a father who could read them stories, a father who could build forts with. It is a shame & embarrassment for this country once again.
I’ve never wished death or harm on anyone. Ok well not since I wished Mitch McConnell would die. I know it is wrong, but I couldn’t stand him during Trump’s first term. I thought he was a lying sack of shit coward. But it was wrong. Could you imagine if I wished that and he did die. I would have been like WTF, I just did that. I thought someone should die and they did. Can you imagine. I wonder if anyone has ever been convicted of murder just for thinking someone should die. It wasn’t right. It was wrong. I’m sorry. Won’t do it again.
I do believe in Karma. I don’t think Charlie Kirk was as good a person as some think. Was he a good debater? Yes. Did he put down other groups of people? Yes. Was it his right to speak as he did? Yes. Did he deserve to be shot? No! Just because you call someone or someone calls themselves God-Fearing Christian, doesn’t mean they’re a good person. “GOD-FEARING: is having a reverent feeling toward God. Devout. Religious people who try to obey the rules of their religion and to live in a way that is considered morally right”. Remember when I spoke about fanatical Christianity is the same as fanatical Islamist. In my opinion being God-Fearing is a decision process for your own actions. It may not always align with your moral compass. I don’t think a good God-Fearing Christians would speak ill of others. That’s not how Christians act. What is funny I never hear Christians saying “See what happens when you go against God’s teachings and you don’t follow his word”. Nope. No one. We are all born to love. Hate is a learned response. I wonder what he was teaching his kids. Maybe you should read my post on “How Hate Grows”. https://paisanosviewoftheworld.com/?p=537
I don’t believe he should receive military honors. He never wore the uniform. Our niece was killed in IRAQ defending someone’s freedoms. You think I give a shit about him receiving military honors. She was a good person and younger than Charlie Kirk. If the president wants to give him the Medal of Freedom, then go ahead. It is his right. I mean he gave it to Rush Limbaugh. Maybe you don’t see hypocrisy. We arrest and deport people in this country legally for protesting the genocide of Palestinians at the hands of Israel & call it a national security issue, but we allow a young man, who speaks hate against different groups of people & call it free speech. Unfortunately, all the issues we have are with our own people. Home grown terrorism & fanaticism. Not the people being deported. Obviously, we are not safer than we have been. I guess it is ok if you are rich, white, male & support the current administrations ideas. You can say whatever you like. I call it hate speech. Did someone deserve to die. No!
I saw someone on FB (Facebook) post that Charlie Kirk now joins the ranks of people like “MLK, Ghandi & Anna Politkovskaya” based on free speech & their charismatic souls. I think there are blatant differences. MLK and others used their free speech to shine a light on people who were being oppressed. Charlie Kirk was not. I still call it hate speech. But he didn’t deserve to die! Then there are all the people posting on social media; “This is unconscionable.”, “This is sad for our country.”, “How can this happen here?”, How did we get here?”, “What’s going on?”, & “What changed?”. Well, I’m glad you asked.
We are all to blame. Have you looked at video games lately. Most of them involve killing people, killing zombies, auto theft & blowing things up. The NFL, one of the most violent sports in the country. I argue even more violent than rugby. Players intentionally try to injure other players. They try to purposefully injure them and knock them out of the game. I’m ok with a good solid hit, and I would argue it is possible to achieve without putting someone out of the game. But we love it! Hockey. A great sport. I love a good open ice hit reminding someone to keep their head up. I also think players try to intentionally hurt others. The fighting sucks. And the hypocritical part of both sports is that the players kneel and feel bad for a player when they are carried off on a stretcher. You caused it, and now you’re kneeling because you feel bad. Give me a break. Did I mention baseball and throwing a pitch at a batter. Disgusting part of the game. Unsportsmanlike and disrespectful. And the cream of the crop, the UFC! We pay men & women to climb in a cage and beat each other until they are bleeding or unconscious. We pay them lots of money. You ask how we got here? WTF.
We are all to blame & it starts from the top down, not the bottom up. Look at all the individual post on FB calling the killing a liberal lunatic, a liberal conspiracy, a far-left plot, a right-wing plan to build hate or the left started something they won’t like. All without knowing the facts. WTF. Leadership is top down; change is bottom up! Right on cue as Tony likes to say, the governor of Utah Spencer Cox, makes statements about the suspect in the Charlie Kirk killing and his relationship with a trans individual. What does that matter? Then he goes on saying that we need to stop watching and checking social media because of the negative things being said. Our President is the #1 culprit of calling people names and spreading false statements on social media. The president even came out this morning calling the liberal left scum. Leadership starts from the top down! We have a president who speaks ill of anyone he can, at any time. He calls people names and tells his followers that a specific group of people are trying to destroy this country and take away their rights. He treats people like pawns and throws them away. Then he wonders why people say the things they do about him. Do as I say, not as I do. Leadership failure 101. The other side is no better. We all do it.
You want to know how we got here? Look in the mirror first.
I’m Glad You Asked.
