A QUIET HERO

I have spent the better part of the last ten years talking to people from both political parties to see if I can understand how we reached this place in our country’s history. I have spoken with state and federal representatives about several different topics that effect everyday folks. I spoke to them about Universal Health Care, the cost of daycare, the cost of college and the need for a high-speed rail system in this country.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that there are a lot of empty suits in Congress who have tuned out the average American. Both political parties have been captured by their fringe, and their agendas are just full of a lot of nonsense.

I don’t have any idea what Democrats stand for other than yelling about Trump’s ballroom and reflecting pool and making sure everything that is said is politically correct. Progressives are winning because they are offering policies that could help everyday Americans, it’s not rocket science.

Republicans, this party lives in an alternate reality! This party’s message changes daily to whatever mindless thought that comes into the President’s head at any given day. The economy is not fine, we don’t want or need another war and if I have to listen to one more religious wingnut tell me we need more prayer, bible quotes or the Ten Commandments while standing next to a rapist who’s half asleep in the oval office at noon, I’m going to throw my flatscreen out the window.

I had really given up hope of anyone from either of these two political parties growing a spine and start acting like a co-equal branch of government but sometimes the biggest heroes come from out of the blue.

Enter Air Force Major Jason Watson. Major Watson put on his Class A uniform, went on the steps of Congress and laid out his case for the impeachment of Donald Trump and JD Vance. Much like Alexander Vindman from Trump’s first impeachment trial, Major Watson is putting his career on the line. He clearly states that this isn’t a democrat or republican thing, it’s a patriotic American speaking truth to power.

John Bonifaz, the president and co-founder of Free Speech for People, praised Watson in a press release, writing: “His willingness to risk his own freedom stands in stark contrast to those who continue to look away as President Trump commits unprecedented abuses of power.”

Major Watson has most likely ended his Air Force career, but he feels it is worth it for him to take this stand for our republic. There are many members of congress from both sides of the aisle who could learn from this American citizen’s courage. Stop worrying about reelection and start doing your legislative branch duties, our country screams for it.
