The Difference Between Right & Wrong

I had two people send me this article that appeared in The Hill. In a nutshell, the article discusses how the criminalization of politics is a wrong and we shouldn’t condone it. The article was authored by a Brian Darling who used to work as a consultant for Rand Paul, a politician who spends most of his time like Don Quixote, fighting with windmills. The point of Brian’s article is that Donald Trump and his merry men were just fighting a political battle to challenge the 2020 election results which according to Brian is their right. Of course, the article doesn’t really clarify what these folks could legally do and what they couldn’t. I have noticed that the folks on the right are always very vague about the legality of certain things.

Let’s be clear, there is a process inside of the electoral college to challenge the results of an election. Objections to individual state returns must be made in writing by at least one Member each of the Senate and House of Representatives. If an objection meets these requirements, the joint session recesses and the two houses separate and debate the question in their respective chambers for a maximum of two hours. The two houses then vote separately to accept or reject the objection. They then reassemble in joint session and announce the results of their respective votes. An objection to a state’s electoral vote must be approved by both houses for any contested votes to be excluded.” Barbara Boxer, a democrat from California  tried this is 2004, she objected to the Ohio slate of electors. It was rejected by both chambers and the process moved on. No riots or violence ensued, which leads me to my next point, which is what you can’t do in this process.

Oh, where to begin. You can’t strong arm the Vice-President to reject the states votes especially since there was no evidence of “mass voter fraud” as Mr. Trump likes to say. Mike Pence knew his role was ceremonial and he couldn’t reject votes, apparently one of the few republicans who thought of his country first and not his political party. You can’t conspire with your cronies to have “fake electors” vote for you even though you lost the election handily. You certainly can’t call the Georgia Secretary of State and ask him to ‘just find you” 11,780 votes even though the state conducted three audits including a hand recount which showed you still lost the state. All the states Mr. Trump challenged held recounts and they came up with the same result, TRUMP LOST!

All these folks on the right, Kevin McCarthy, Elise Stefanik, Jim Jordan and of course the looney tunes side of the republicans, Marge Taylor Greene, Lauren Bobert and Matt Gaetz, none of them ever say Trump didn’t do any of things he’s accused off, it’s all just a witch hunt. Even though several juries have seen enough evidence to indict, most of the folks who will testify against him are republicans and several of the judges who have shot down his efforts to tie up the process were appointed by him, yeah, it’s all a big democratic plot. The stupidity from the right is quite frankly, breathtaking!

I suspect the orange man will win the republican nomination even though there are much better candidates out there, you will pick the guy who bankrupted casinos, airlines, meat companies and a fake university, you will stick with your so-called savior. You folks who want to keep turning a blind eye to this lunacy from republicans, do so at your own peril. Much like your ignorance about climate change, this ignorance is going to destroy our republic!
