Do you know who I am?

I have to say, one of the things I find most humorous about the folks who work in our Congress is how they handle controversy. It’s amazing how they twist and contour themselves to explain bad decisions and behavior.

I give you Lauren Boebert, US House of Representatives from Colorado’s 3rd district. Let’s give a little background on Lauren so we can put all this in context. Boebert has continually cast LGBTQ+ people, particularly transgender individuals and drag queens, as sexual deviants whose existence in public spaces inherently “sexualizes” the space to the point that they must be barred from it to protect children’s innocence. A real compassionate Christian but I digress as there are several things that really make this story amusing.

First, her date for the evening was 46-year-old Quinn Gallagher, a Democrat-supporting owner of a bar that hosts LGBTQ+ and drag events in the ski town of Aspen, Colorado. The events included a women’s party for Aspen Gay Ski Week and a Winter Wonderland Burlesque & Drag Show. Boebert has been an outspoken critic of drag shows, as evidenced by a June 2022 post on the social media platform now known as X which read: “Take your children to Church, not drag bars.” You have to love this line, last time I checked the were more kids molested by clergy than any drag queen but that’s a story for another day.

Next, the congresswoman did the usual deny, deny, deny, and screamed that her rights were be trampled on. This is the standard political response when you act like a jackass! As it happens, there’s a videotape of the incident. In the video, Ms.Boebert can be seen blowing smoke from her vape on others, taking unauthorized videos and my favorite part, her boyfriend, and her groping each other in a public theater. I’m guessing she left her Christian values in her other purse.

Finally, and this is my favorite part. After she asked to leave the theater and escorted out, she blurted out every movie star, professional athlete, and government official standard line, “Do you know who I am?” Now, I’ve heard numerous famous folks blurt this line out, my question, “what the hell does that mean?” I mean, is there some unwritten code that says famous people can act like morons because of who they are or who they know? Does it exempt them from being punished or held responsible for their actions?

Representative Boebert spent the weekend with constituents talking about the infrastructure projects that her district gained from Infrastructure bill the Biden administration passed, one I should add, she voted against. I guess the thing that really bewilders me is how this people keep getting elected to public office. I know one thing for sure, as I get older and start doing anything the least bit questionable, if anyone challenges me, I’m going to just say, “Do you know who I am?”
