One of the things that has always amazed me about Democrats is that even when that freight train is barreling towards them in the tunnel, they just don’t believe it will run them over. It’s really a huge character flaw for Democrats but they never seem to learn their lesson.
Republicans are always screaming that Democrats are trying take our rights away and they are morally bankrupt. Republicans and conservatives stomped their feet for years about overturning Roe vs Wade, but Democrats just didn’t believe they would do it, then they stole a Supreme Court seat from the Democrats and just like Roe vs Wade was overturned right in front of their eyes. Now, Republicans have had this decision backfire on them as since it’s now a state’s issue, seven red states have approved state constitutional amendments protecting abortion rights. It’s never a good idea to scorn women on their bodily autonomy but be assured, Republicans will keep trying.
Enter stage right, the Alabama Supreme Court, they ruled this week that IVF embryos are children and will be protected as such. In his opinion, the Chief Justice stated, “Human life, cannot be wrongfully destroyed without incurring the wrath of a holy God, who views the destruction of His image as an affront to Himself.” Got that? Now, we have judges using their religion in their decisions, basically, saying the quiet part out loud. I wonder if a judge who is Muslim and quoted the Koran in his rulings, think the folks in Alabama would be ok with that? Currently, there are several red states who are pushing to ban birth control pills and IUDs. Paying attention yet ladies?
Alabama like all other states has two US Senators. One of them, Tommy Tuberville who was elected because he coached football at Auburn University and no other reason came up with this astute response on the IVF ruling:
Well, you know what they say, “The dumber the farmer, the bigger the potatoes.” A sitting US Senator doesn’t even know what IVF is and yet in his mind, this was a good decision. Mind numbing!
For years, Republicans pushed their “pro-life” agenda, they were never pro-life, just “pro-birth”. If they were pro-life, they would push for subsidized daycare or universal pre-k. Truth be told, this is all about power and control, they have it and want more of it. I believe that women should start pushing back on these restrictive policies, maybe they should start demanding that all 16 yr. old men have mandatory vasectomies, that can be reversed when they decide they are ready for children. Let’s see if we can get any Republicans to support that?
I made sure when I was raising my two daughters to instill in them to be strong and independent, never dependent on a man. I am proud to say that both are, and it has served them well in life. I believe all these decisions that are usually put out there by angry, old white men should be a wake-up call to women and democrats! I included this interview that Diane Sawyer conducted with some of the ladies from the senate. This country could use some more of these smart, strong-willed ladies to guide this country.
On a personal note, IVF is a wonderful tool to assist families with having children, one on my grandchildren is a product of IVF and that child brings a lot of happiness into this world, and we certainly could use more of that in these times!
